Kate & Spencer’s 'one venue' wedding on Ithaca
After deciding that Greece was the destination for their wedding, Kate and Spencer invested time on an early summer holiday to visit and explore their short list of islands. Never having been to Ithaca it was a huge leap of faith to consider this most amazing island – happily that leap of faith lead them to their dream venue; a venue that offered the potential they were dreaming of; a venue offering a romantic setting for their ceremony, dance floor to party but also the most sublime menu and amazing views, altogether offering the perfect guest experience they were looking for.
That venue, Myrtia, located on a mountainside looking across to neighbouring Lefkada, the valley of Platriethias below and beyond to mainland Greece. This amazing restaurant and event venue specializing in delicious unique Greek dishes, set in an area with stunning scenery and offering a relaxed vibe – perfect for their dream day.
Kates bridal preparations took place at Villa Kalos, a pale stone villa nearby where, Kate, her two bridesmaids and her ‘girls’ enjoyed some pre-wedding champagne and bridal pampering.
Kates fitted Justin Alexander wedding dress with its open back, draping detail and fishtail skirt was elegantly simple in style, her relaxed updo with statement hair jewellery, soft trendils framing her face and natural make up showcased her custom made earrings from a local jeweller.
The bridesmaids wore pale olive green dresses highlighting the colour of Spencer, the grooms tie, wearing their hair down in contrast to Kates updo, natural make up and custom made necklaces, gifts from Kate to her bridesmaids and her girls.
The bouquets were a beautiful mix of textures and classic whites: lisianthus, hypericum and astilbe with jacobaea, wild sage and eucalyptus. The grooms pocket buttonhole reflected the bridal bouquets florals.
Spencer and his two groomsmen wore stone coloured suits with waistcoats, white shirts, olive green ties for the groomsmen, a paler shade for Spencer to match the bridesmaids dresses, brown brogue styled shoes completed their look. Groom preparations took place at the venue which also offers a ‘wedding room’ where couples can take a breath or freshen up during their celebrations.
The non-religious ceremony was led by a celebrant in the shade of an olive tree, white muslin fabric woven between the branches creating an arch with two floral arrangements either side and lanterns. Their personalized ceremony was performed in front of their seated guests and included the ‘blessing of the crowns’ taken from the traditional Greek orthodox wedding ceremony.
After the ceremony guests enjoyed cocktail hour with canapes giving a taste of what was to come for dinner, entertained by a live saxophone player whilst Kate and Spencer went the short distance back to Villa Kalos for their couples portraits.
At Villa Kalos just a short distance away from the wedding venue, Kate & Spencer captured their first memories as Mr & Mrs and also gave them a little time to take a breath.
The bridal table was a table for two with their guests tables positioned so everyone could enjoy the stunning views. Table décor was minimal, stone coloured table runners with tea light holders, individual menus and place cards, traditional Greek style bonbonnieres and olive sprigs completing the décor.
Making the most of the florals the two floral arrangements from the ceremony were relocated to either side of the bridal table with lanterns scattered behind their candles giving off a soft romantic glow.
